What are the Benefits of physical therapy?

How much time does therapy require?
The average session will depend on the actual condition that needs to be treated. Some may be brief and some may be longer depending on the areas that need to be treated as well as the number of treatments necessary which will be prescribed by the doctor and the patients response and progress.

Generally, there are two types of treatments. The first will be passive modalities that are designed to reduce pain and reduce inflammation. The second involves the actual exercises and the body mechanics and education. Physical therapy modalities include ultrasound, electric stimulation techniques and the application of heat and or cold.

Physical therapy can benefit almost any person. At our office, physical therapy is a big part of the patients’ treatment. Common diagnoses include neck and lower back pain, leg pain, herniated discs, arthritis headaches, and for every joint pain and bodily injuries.
What is required of a physical therapy patient?
In order to get the full benefit of physical therapy, it is important that the patient be compliant in attending scheduled sessions as well as doing home exercises instructed by their therapist.
Will the treatment hurt?
Sometimes the patient may experience increased pain or soreness after the first visit. This is important in helping to make proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
Does the Doctor know what the physical therapist is doing?
The Physical Therapists work under the doctor’s prescription. Your physician receives evaluations and progress reports on your Improvement.
What if physical therapy doesn’t work?
Physical Therapy is not the answer for every patient. If the patient receives physical therapy and doesn’t make any progress the patient will be referred back to their physician for a reevaluation.
