Knee Replacement Surgery
Who needs this procedure?
If you have severe, debilitating pain in your knee, you may need knee replacement surgery. How do you know whether your pain requires surgery? Ask yourself: Does the pain prevent you from following your typical routine or keeping up with those around you? Does it compromise your daily life? If you answered yes even once, you should get evaluated.
What is the procedure?
Simply put, knee replacement surgery includes taking out arthritic bone that has worn away and replacing it with a state of the art mechanical prosthesis.
The procedure typically requires a three- or four-day stay in the hospital, followed by a physical therapy regimen. Usually 6 weeks following surgery, you will be able to walk with a cane. Shortly thereafter, you may be able to drive a car and resume many of your normal daily activities.
Your new knee should be strong enough to last you the rest of your life. You should be able to participate in activities that you never dreamed possible. Many of our patients wish they had the surgery 5 years prior.
