ACL Reconstruction
Who needs this procedure?
The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) Is highly important structure in your knee. It gives you the ability to run and change direction. When the ACL tears, your knee becomes weak and unstable, making it difficult to walk normally, run or participate in sports.
Though you can live without your ACL, it is not recommended because this serious injury could lead to arthritis later in life.
What is the procedure?
Reconstructing the knee ligament from a portion of your own patellar tendon.
This procedure is done arthriscopically, using a camera to see inside your knee. The process minimizes scarring and leads to a rapid recovery.
Why should you choose Wilson Orthopaedics?
Dr. Wilson studied sports medicine techniques under Dr. Norman Scott, the doctor for the New York Knicks basketball team. During that fellowship, Dr. Wilson was assistant team doctor for the Knicks, a period during which he gained extensive exposure to arthoscopic techniques and to the ailments of professional athletes.
Since he has been in private practice, Dr. Wilson has performed hundreds of ACL reconstruction surgeries. He uses what is considered the gold standard technique; the procedure leads to a shorter recovery time and a painless knee.
